Progress in delivering aid to Gaza despite the challenges and the continued closure of the northern crossings

UN humanitarian partners monitoring population flows through Gaza report that people continue to move towards areas that were off-limits before the ceasefire. More than 425,000 movements have been reported from the southern to northern parts of the Strip since October 10.

In northern Gaza, yesterday, Tuesday, humanitarian partners visited a displacement site in Jabalia and two schools where displaced people live in Beit Lahia.

Relief workers were not able to reach these areas before the ceasefire due to military operations. More than 200 families residing in these sites urgently need food, water, toilets, bedding sets and hygiene items. The United Nations confirmed that it, along with its partners, is making every effort to intensify assistance.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the World Health Organization confirmed its determination to rebuild and reform the health system in Gaza, even though the needs are enormous.

Facilitating the movement of aid and fuel

Also yesterday, United Nations teams were able to monitor goods entering through the Kissufim crossing under the United Nations mechanism approved by the UN Security Council resolution. No. 2720. This became possible after the Israeli authorities facilitated the arrival of the UN teams.

Of the 10 humanitarian missions coordinated with the Israeli authorities, six were facilitated, including the collection of water tanks, hygiene kits and fuel from the crossings into Gaza. Today, UN teams were able to collect several fuel tankers and hundreds of shipments of baby diapers.

On Monday, at least 145 UN-coordinated trucks carrying nearly 1,500 metric tons of aid were collected from the Kerem Shalom and Kissufim crossings – according to the UN Mechanism 2720 dashboard.

Nearly three-quarters of the aid collected was food, but the UN and its partners were also able to collect shelter materials, animal feed, health supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene kits.

Regarding aid entering Gaza, 263 trucks from the United Nations and its partners were unloaded at the Kerem Shalom and Kissufim crossings on Monday. The trucks were carrying 1,600 metric tons of aid, more than 40 percent of which was food.
