"Muslim sages" Strongly condemns the Israeli Knesset’s approval to impose sovereignty over the West Bank
Abu Dhabi, October 24 / WAM / The Muslim Council of Elders strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval, in preliminary reading, of two draft laws aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legitimizing control over one of the settlements.
In a statement issued today, the Council affirmed its categorical rejection of such provocative practices that aim to change the legal and historical situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, and represent a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions, and an undermining of efforts aimed at achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The Council of Muslim Elders renewed its call on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and confront Israel’s repeated attempts to annex the West and liquidate the Palestinian issue, stressing that recognizing the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital is the only way to achieve lasting security and peace in the region.
