The UAE confirms its commitment to partnering with Africa to transition towards clean energy and green manufacturing during the Investment Forum for "Accelerated Partnership Initiative for Renewable Energy Deployment" In Sierra Leone

Freetown, 24 October / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah Al-Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, representing the UAE, participated in the opening session and ministerial discussion of the Investment Forum of the “Accelerated Partnership Initiative for the Dissemination of Renewable Energy in Africa”, which was held at the International Convention Center in Freetown, the Republic of Sierra Leone, with the participation of a number of ministers and senior officials to discuss practical ways to accelerate energy deployment. renewable energy, and promoting sustainable industrial development across the African continent.
The opening session was entitled “Promoting the transition towards energy and green manufacturing in the countries affiliated with the Accelerated Partnership Initiative for the Dissemination of Renewable Energy in Africa,” where discussions centered on how country partners, including the UAE, can contribute to expanding the scope of collective support and coordinating international cooperation in line with the comprehensive sustainable development goals on the African continent.
As a supporting member of the Accelerated Partnership Initiative for the Dissemination of Renewable Energy in Africa, the UAE renewed its commitment to supporting Africa’s energy transformation, by establishing long-term partnerships, enhancing investment cooperation, and exchanging knowledge and expertise.
His Excellency Al-Alaa participated with his counterparts in the relevant ministries from Ghana, Djibouti, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe, in a dialogue session that addressed the urgent need to create appropriate environments, financial innovations, and strengthen regional cooperation in order to launch bankable renewable energy projects with a transformative impact throughout the African continent.
His Excellency said: The UAE continues its commitment to consolidating partnerships that support Africa’s goals in the fields of clean energy and industrial development. Therefore, by joining forces, we can launch more investments, empower local communities, and achieve shared prosperity.
Discussions during the session emphasized the importance of reducing expected risks and addressing structural barriers to investment, including issues related to revenue models, weak infrastructure, and market stability.
During his participation, His Excellency Al-Alaa reflected the UAE’s focus on supporting the creation of applicable solutions at the local level and expanding their scope to provide access to energy and promote sustainable industrial growth.
This ministerial discussion serves as the official opening of the Accelerated Partnership Initiative for Renewable Energy in Africa forum, paving the way for subsequent technical sessions and the formulation of the agenda on the basis of the real political experiences and development priorities of the initiative’s member states.
This participation reflects the UAE’s keenness to consolidate energy diplomacy based on achieving shared value, providing opportunities at the local level, and achieving sustainable impact, which embodies the country’s role as a bridge linking innovation, investment, and comprehensive growth.
To enhance its established partnership with the African continent, the UAE highlighted the Green Investment in Africa Initiative worth US$4.5 billion, which was launched during its presidency of the COP28 Conference of the Parties to enable the continent to invest in its potential in the field of clean energy, enhance cooperation, and finance climate action. This initiative aims to provide 15 gigawatts of new clean energy by 2030, while stimulating sustainable industrial growth.
At the same time, the UAE continues to strengthen its strategic economic relations with African countries through Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA) to enhance trade and investment opportunities in vital sectors.
