The United Nations welcomes the joint declaration from Cambodia and Thailand

During his visit to Malaysia, António Guterres also welcomed the efforts that had been agreed upon to alleviate the suffering of civilians, including through cooperation in the field of humanitarian mine clearance.

The United Nations spokesman said in a press statement that the Secretary-General expresses the hope that this declaration will pave the way towards sustainable peace.

The statement added that Guterres deeply appreciates the important role played by Malaysia – in its capacity as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – and the United States in facilitating this declaration.

The press statement reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and development in the region.
