DP World launches "Port community system" To enhance the efficiency of Kenyan trade

Nairobi, 27 October / WAM / Dubai Ports World Group, DP World, has officially launched the advanced “Port Community System” application, marking an important achievement in Kenya’s journey towards facilitating business and enhancing its efficiency.
As a gateway to more than a dozen landlocked countries in East and Central Africa, the Port of Mombasa on the east coast of the African continent handles a significant portion of the region’s imports and exports, making digital transformation crucial to enhancing the region’s trade competitiveness.
This system was developed in collaboration with the Kenyan company “EMI Port Logistics”, and implemented in cooperation with the Kenya Ports Authority and the Kenyan government, and allows all port users, both public and private, to benefit from improved cargo control and operational efficiency, and accelerated clearance processes, even though DP World does not manage the port of Mombasa.
Mahmoud Al Bastaki, Chief Operating Officer of Digital Trade Solutions at DP World Group, stressed the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation across African trade corridors.
He added that digitization is no longer just an option, but has become necessary to benefit from the full potential of trade on the African continent, noting that investment in Kenya represents a new chapter in linking Africa’s ports to the digital economy, and by launching this platform in Kenya, we are linking Africa’s ports to the digital economy, and contributing to setting a new regional standard for digital integration and transparency of logistics networks in the region.
Through the new system, users, including importers, exporters, freight forwarders, transport companies and customs agents, will have access to a wide and comprehensive set of digital tools, from goods tracking and gate booking, to invoices, payment and real-time status updates. When fully operational, the “Port Community System” is expected to reduce cargo clearance time by up to 30%, improving delivery speed by more than 30%. Of 3,000 port users annually.
For the Kenya Ports Authority, the “Port Community System” will enable smarter operation of gates, improve control of cargo movement, and reduce waiting times, strengthening Mombasa’s position as a leading maritime hub linking East and Central Africa to global markets.
