The Iraqi national team withdraws its request to postpone the “World Cup playoff” match and heads to Mexico by private plane

The Iraqi national football team announced that it is no longer seeking to postpone the World Cup qualifying play-off match scheduled for the end of this March, and will leave for Mexico at the end of the week on a private plane to play the match.

Adnan Darjal, President of the Iraqi Football Federation, announced this matter yesterday evening, Saturday, in a statement on Instagram.

The Iraqi team is scheduled to meet the winner from Bolivia and Suriname on March 31 in Monterrey, to reserve one of the six remaining seats for the World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Darjal said that implementation “is progressing at full speed,” and added: “We have one goal: to qualify for the World Cup.” Our focus… is on providing the appropriate conditions for the players so that they can focus on this match and realize the dream of the Iraqi fans.”

The Iraqi national team participated once in the World Cup, and that was in Mexico in 1986.

Adnan Darjal said that there is nothing official about Iran’s withdrawal from the tournament yet, and that the focus should be on the Iraq match next March 31 as scheduled, without paying attention to speculation about the possibility of Iraq entering Iran’s place in the World Cup.
