UNRWA expands its educational program in Gaza: hundreds of thousands of students have resumed studies
He stated that more than 25,000 children have so far joined the “temporary learning spaces” established by UNRWA, and that the agency will continue to increase the number of these sites.
In parallel, Lazzarini said that UNRWA is offering online classes aimed at reaching about 300,000 children. He stressed that literacy and education are the cure for despair and psychological trauma.
He added: “None of this would have been possible without thousands of UNRWA teachers.” Who he said prove every day that UNRWA succeeds in its work.
Renewed air strikes in the West Bank
The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territory expressed concern about renewed air strikes in the West Bank.
And he said: “The use of air strikes in the occupied West Bank is unlawful. The situation in the West Bank does not rise to the level of hostilities between parties to an armed conflict. Therefore, the operations of Israeli security forces are subject to international human rights standards and rules applicable to law enforcement officials.”
The Human Rights Office added that this means:
⬅️The use of weapons and tactics designed to wage war, such as air strikes, is inconsistent with international human rights law standards applicable to civilian law enforcement agencies.
The use of firearms and similar lethal weapons by Israeli security forces should be limited to cases where it is absolutely necessary as a last resort to protect against an imminent threat of death or serious injury.
