The Ruler of Sharjah witnesses the ceremony of the British University of Exeter Alumni Association in the Gulf

Sharjah, 28 October / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, this evening, Tuesday, witnessed the ceremony of the British University of Exeter Alumni Association in the Gulf, at the residence of Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi.
During a speech he delivered, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah discussed his career, which began more than 40 years ago, during which he was a doctoral student at the University of Exeter, which was then ranked at the third level among universities in Britain, praising the work of its administration during the previous years and its development until it rose to become one of the oldest universities in the world.
His Highness spoke of the merit of the University of Exeter upon him through his acquisition of academic knowledge, narration of history, and the formation of his character to be an academic person, noting that these efforts were reflected in his writings and his style in documenting history. He touched on his close relationship with the University of Exeter since he entered the university until today, and noted his keenness to meet university officials and establish mutual partnerships with Sharjah universities in various scientific programs.
He affirmed his full and continuous support for the University of Exeter, in return for his gratitude and His Highness’s contribution to the university’s distinguished journey, which has gained a good reputation, making students in Britain and the world flock to it.
For her part, Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter, thanked and appreciated His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his keenness, constant communication, and hosting the university’s alumni meeting, stressing that it is a distinguished opportunity to celebrate the partnership with the Emirate of Sharjah in many academic programs, the latest of which is the signing of a cooperation agreement with the University of Al Dhaid to offer a bachelor’s program in geological sciences.
Roberts revealed that the partnership will not stop, but will extend in the coming days to several universities in the Emirate of Sharjah, recalling the reception of a number of students of marine sciences at the University of Khor Fakkan at the University of Exeter in Britain. She pointed out that the credit goes to the support and efforts of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, who contributed to their presence and their acquisition of various sciences.
At the end of her speech, the President of the University of Exeter spoke about the impact that His Highness left on the university after his recent visit and receiving the honorary president’s medal, which the university presents for the first time in its history, expressing her happiness and pride in being in the Emirate of Sharjah.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and the audience watched a film about His Highness receiving the Medal of Honorary President of the University of Exeter, in recognition of His Highness’s distinguished contributions to education and scientific research, and His Highness’s distinguished relationship with the University of Exeter, in addition to his efforts in establishing centers, libraries, projects and initiatives affiliated with the university, which come within the framework of His Highness’s support for the university.
Dr. Brendan Goodley, Professor of Environmental Conservation Sciences at the University of Exeter, gave a visual presentation in which he discussed the Sharjah Center for Marine Sciences Research, which comes in cooperation between the University of Exeter and the University of Khor Fakkan, starting from the signing of the cooperation agreement and the establishment of a joint working team between the two universities, leading to the establishment and opening of the center in the coming days, and the most prominent facilities it will include to help students conduct research in marine sciences.
During the presentation, Goodley expressed his pride in what has been accomplished, and talked about the efforts of the joint work team between the two universities and the specialized programs that the center will provide to its students. He reviewed video clips of marine life, methods of monitoring it, and a number of projects they are working on, revealing the existence of many joint researches and studies to find solutions at the level of fish farms, planning marine life, and monitoring the habitats of marine organisms.
At the end of the Alumni Association ceremony, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a souvenir from Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter, in appreciation and gratitude for His Highness hosting this ceremony.
On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi hosted a dinner in honor of the graduates of the British University of Exeter in the Gulf.
The ceremony was attended, in addition to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, by Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al Marri, Head of the House of Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, Dr. Muhaddith Yahya Al Hashimi, President of the Sharjah Education Academy, Dr. Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi. Director of Khor Fakkan University, and a number of Exeter University graduates.
