The world’s highest pumped-stored hydropower station begins operation in eastern China

BEIJING, October 29 / WAM / Yesterday, China launched a pumped-stored hydroelectric power station, which has the highest dam of its kind in the world, in the city of Jiurong in Jiangsu Province, located in the east of the country.
Built by a branch of China’s national power grid, the plant has a total installed capacity of 1.35 gigawatts and is expected to generate 1.35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The height of the upper reservoir dam is 182.3 meters, which is approximately the height of a 60-story building, making it the highest pumped energy storage dam in the world, and the reservoir can hold up to 17.07 million cubic meters of water.
