Egypt announces an increase in gas production from the Zohr field by about 70 million cubic feet per day

Cairo, October 29 / WAM / The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt announced the successful completion of drilling the new “Zohr-9” well in the Zohr natural gas field in the Mediterranean, which contributes to raising the field’s production by about 70 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Engineer Karim Badawy, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, explained that the results of the well confirmed the presence of a gas-bearing layer that allows for increased production according to the targeted plan, noting that the drilling work was carried out by the Saipem 10000 drilling ship, with full compliance with safety standards and specified timetables.

In a related context, the Ministry said that drilling work for the new exploratory well “Denise W-1X” began in the Denise development area off the coast of Port Said in the Mediterranean Sea, using the Egyptian drilling rig “Al-Qaher-2”, in waters 98 meters deep and targeting a total depth exceeding 4,200 metres.
