المملكة: Expert: Plasma reduces the pain of roughness, but does not treat it.. and the Kingdom is making progress in robotic surgeries

A consultant in orthopedic surgery explained that common treatments such as plasma needles and oil needles are only effective in relieving the pain of osteoarthritis, and are not considered a radical treatment for the problem, stressing at the same time that the use of stem cells in this field is still under research study.

This came during a speech by Dr. Saad Al-Qahtani, consultant Orthopedics and complex fractures at King Fahd University Hospital in Al-Khobar, in the ninety-fifth meeting of the “Doctors’ Diwaniyah,” which was titled “Shoulder Pain: Causes and Treatment.”

The Kingdom’s Progress in the Health Sector

Dr. Al-Qahtani highlighted the technical progress witnessed by the Kingdom in the health sector, noting that Saudi Arabia has outperformed many countries in applying artificial intelligence techniques in Early detection and commitment to treatment.

The main causes were attributed to inflammation or tearing of the shoulder tendons, or what is known as “frozen shoulder,” in addition to joint roughness, fractures, biceps muscle injuries, or pain referred from the neck or heart.

Accurate diagnosis is the basis for beginning treatment

The consultant explained that treatment courses depend on accurate diagnosis, and include temporary rest, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and cortisone injections. He stressed that infections alone do not necessarily require surgical intervention, while surgery remains an option depending on each case.

Dr. Al-Qahtani touched on the prevalence of osteoarthritis in patients with anemia, attributing this to lack of blood flow and bone erosion, but he reassured that surgical operations are no longer complicated thanks to medical progress.

He explained that the treatment protocol for shoulder dislocation varies depending on the age of the patient; Direct surgical intervention is often preferred for young people to reduce the chances of recurrence of dislocation, while physical therapy is sufficient for the elderly.
