Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said that Kingston International Airport, which had resumed operation since the previous day, received "Thirteen cargo planes loaded with humanitarian aid Thursday, not to mention the aid that arrived via numerous commercial flights and private planes. We expect more than twenty cargo planes to arrive today"

The Minister added that the three international airports on the island will resume operations by Saturday morning, for humanitarian and commercial flights.

He confirmed that Jamaica will receive reinforcements consisting of "Eight to ten helicopters from the US government, which are large helicopters capable of transporting and treating patients who may need them and, of course, transporting a large amount of humanitarian aid."

Massive destruction

Dana Morris Dixon said that the destruction in the west is unimaginable, thanking "On behalf of the Jamaican people" on "The exceptional humanitarian aid and support we receive"

Hurricane Melissa, which left about 50 people dead, destroyed entire areas of Jamaica and sank Cuba, was moving quickly away from Bermuda on Friday after sweeping the Caribbean Sea for several days.

The hurricane has become more destructive due to climate change, and it was the most powerful hurricane to make landfall in 90 years when it reached Jamaica on Tuesday as a Category 5 hurricane, the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale. With wind speeds reaching about 300 kilometers per hour.
