Three agreements between "ADNOC" and"Gecko Robotics"

Abu Dhabi, November 2, 2017 / WAM / ADNOC and Gecko Robotics announced the expansion of their strategic partnership by signing three new agreements to explore opportunities to benefit from robotics and artificial intelligence solutions across ADNOC’s operations, and to train Emirati talent in skills that keep pace with the future.

The agreements were signed today in conjunction with the activities of the ENACT Council in Abu Dhabi, and include the application of advanced technologies over several years at ADNOC Gas, the development of joint training programs with the ADNOC Technical Academy, in addition to the application of robotics and analytics solutions supported by artificial intelligence across ADNOC assets with the aim of increasing efficiency, reducing operations downtime, and supporting data-based maintenance procedures.

AIQ, a joint venture between ADNOC and Presight, signed the first agreement representing a multi-year partnership with Gecko Robotics to implement the Cantilever operating system across ADNOC Gas assets, in a step that paves the way for AIQ’s entry into the robotics sector.

A separate agreement was also signed between ADNOC and Gecko Robotics to explore opportunities to expand the use of advanced robotics solutions and analytics supported by artificial intelligence, the possibility of manufacturing robotic systems within the UAE, and developing artificial intelligence solutions that meet ADNOC’s operational requirements.

The third agreement brought together “Gecko Robotics” and “ADNOC Technical Academy” with the aim of cooperating in developing training programs.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, said that thanks to the vision and directives of the wise leadership, the UAE continues to consolidate its global leadership in the field of artificial intelligence and various vital sectors.

His Excellency added that ADNOC continues to benefit from smart tools, solutions and advanced technologies to create a qualitative shift in all stages and aspects of its work, which contributes to raising efficiency, enhancing safety and improving performance across operational processes. He pointed out that these three agreements are an important new step in ADNOC’s endeavors to become the energy company that most benefits from artificial intelligence tools and solutions in the world by accelerating the application of robotics solutions, empowering national competencies, and consolidating the country’s position as a global center for innovation in the energy sector.

For his part, Jake Losararian, CEO of Gecko Robotics, said that there is a global race to achieve leadership in the fields of energy and artificial intelligence, pointing out that the energy companies that will lead this race will not only benefit from technology, but will transform into technology companies.

He added that the only way to win this race is to collect physical data using robots, and to benefit from human capabilities and automated performance through artificial intelligence techniques fed by that data, explaining that there are a few companies that realize this fact, and ADNOC is one of the pioneers in this field.
