Shakhbut bin Nahyan meets with the Executive Secretary of IGAD to discuss ways to enhance regional cooperation
ABU DHABI, 3rd November, 2018 (WAM) – His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, received His Excellency Dr. Warqinah Gebeho, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan stressed the UAE’s keenness to enhance cooperation with IGAD and its member states, noting the country’s commitment to supporting efforts to consolidate peace, stability and sustainable development in the Horn of Africa region.
His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan praised the efforts of IGAD in conflict prevention and mediation for peace and regional integration, reiterating the UAE’s readiness to continue cooperation with the organization in initiatives that promote sustainable development and contribute to the well-being of the peoples of the region.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Workina Gebeho expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s continued support for IGAD’s programs and its constructive role in promoting peace, stability and development in the Horn of Africa region.
The two sides reviewed the distinguished partnership between the UAE and IGAD, and discussed ways to develop cooperation in key areas including food security, climate resilience, digital innovation, and infrastructure development.
They also exchanged views on regional developments in the Horn of Africa, stressing the importance of dialogue and collective action to enhance stability and support humanitarian efforts in the region.
The meeting also discussed future areas of cooperation between the UAE and IGAD, including exchanging experiences at the political, economic and security levels and enhancing coordination on humanitarian and development priorities through regional and international platforms.
