المملكة: "Statistics": 17.2 thousand serious traffic accidents… and a decline in death rates

These accidents resulted in the death of 4,282 people and the injury of more than 24,000 others, while the figures showed that more than 60% of the total serious accidents occurred within cities.

The casualty rate declined

Despite these numbers, statistics reported a significant decline in the main safety indicators compared to 2023.

The death rate per 100,000 people recorded a decline of 7.1%, reaching 12.13 deaths.

The infection rate per 100,000 people also decreased by 3.8%, as 68.21 infections were recorded.

Land port traffic

On the other hand, statistics showed great activity in land port traffic, as the number of arriving and departing passengers exceeded 65.9 million passengers in 2024.

The number of arrivals reached More than 33 million passengers arrived in the Kingdom, representing more than 50% of the total, while the number of departures reached about 32.8 million passengers.

The King Fahd Causeway port topped all ports with traffic amounting to about 50% of the total passengers, followed by Al-Khafji port with a rate of 11.6%. January recorded the highest percentage of passenger traffic at 10.1%, followed by February, while September and October recorded the lowest percentage.

Increasing growth in the number of vehicles

This comes in light of an increasing growth in the number of vehicles, as statistics showed that the number of registered and roadable vehicles until the end of 2024 exceeded 15.8 million vehicles, recording an increase of 6.9% compared to 2023.

It also increased The number of vehicles registered as a new issue in 2024 increased by 16.8% to exceed one million vehicles.

In a related context, the number of driving licenses issued for the first time increased by 6.6% compared to 2023, to exceed 1.2 million licenses.

Land outlets

The Riyadh region came first in terms of the number of licenses issued with a rate of 37.1%, followed by the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region with a rate of slightly more than 20%, then the Eastern Region.

With regard to shipping, the report stated that the total amount of freight issued through the ports during the year 2024 amounted to more than 13.4 million tons, recording a slight decrease of 0.4% from 2023.

On the other hand, the quantities of freight received through land ports amounted to more than 12.2 million tons, an increase of 7.1% compared to the previous year.
