Sharjah hosts the first meeting of the UAE-Azerbaijan Joint Business Council

Sharjah, 6 November / WAM / The headquarters of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted today the first meeting of the joint Emirati-Azerbaijani Business Council, which brought together representatives of the Federation of Emirates Chambers and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Vice President of the Federation of Emirates Chambers, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Emirati side of the Council, and from the Azerbaijani side, Orkhan Mammadov, Head of the Azerbaijan Agency for Small and Medium Business Development, in the presence of a number of officials and members of the Council.

During the meeting, ways to enhance cooperation relations between the two countries in the trade and investment fields were discussed, especially in the sectors of transportation, energy, construction engineering, decoration, textiles, wood, information and communication technology, financial services, tourism, and education centers.

His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais said that the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan have close and developed cooperation relations covering all fields, noting that there are many cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between them in various sectors.

He stressed the necessity of working to develop trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, pointing to the common interest and mutual desire of both parties to develop these relations to broader horizons.

Al Owais stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries at the private sector level and developing joint work between the Emirati and Azerbaijani business sectors, which contributes to enhancing trade exchange and raising it to the level of ambitions, especially since the memorandum of understanding signed in September 2025 between the Federation of Emirates Chambers and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the Business Council will strengthen relations between the business sectors of the two countries. He said: “We want to develop this memorandum and work diligently towards activating the role of the joint business council.”

For his part, Orkhan Mammadov explained that the delegation accompanying him includes a number of Azerbaijani companies in various fields such as tourism, agriculture and technology, which indicates the diversity of fields that companies from the two countries can enter. He pointed out that there are initiatives from the two countries aimed at increasing the volume of trade exchange between them, including mutual visits and trade delegations, stressing the importance of the Business Council in building a direct communication link between Emirati business owners and their counterparts in Azerbaijan.

Mammadov called on Emirati companies to learn about the opportunities available for investment in sectors of common interest, such as agriculture, industry, and foodstuffs, and to discuss cooperation with the Azerbaijani companies participating in the delegation accompanying him, stressing the agency’s full readiness to support Emirati companies wishing to invest in his country.

The Council’s work mechanism and future plans were also discussed in accordance with the interests of the business sector in both countries.
