Paris reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent

Paris, 6 November / WAM / The French capital, Paris, recorded a decrease of approximately 25 percent in greenhouse gas emissions during the past ten years, according to a European study conducted in cooperation with the air quality monitoring body in Paris, “Erparif”, and published today, ahead of the United Nations Climate Conference “COP30” in the Brazilian city of Belém.
Professor Thomas Louvaux from the French Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE) confirmed that these results are almost identical to the estimates of “Erparev”, which are based on a comprehensive inventory of emissions sources such as wood heating, traffic, and industrial activities.
Lovo explained that real-time field data allows a more accurate assessment of the city’s policies to improve air quality and reduce pollution, noting that the transportation sector is the most contributing to this decline, thanks to the decline in the use of cars powered by fossil fuels and the expansion of bicycle path networks and public transportation.
The researchers indicated in their study that if Paris is able to fully implement its climate action plan, it will be on track to achieve its 2030 climate goal, in line with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.
