Latifa bint Mohammed visits an exhibition "Downtown Design" within "Dubai Design Week"


Dubai, 7 November / WAM / Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, visited “Downtown Design”, the leading contemporary design exhibition in the Middle East, as part of the activities of the eleventh edition of Dubai Design Week, which is held in a strategic partnership with Dubai Design District, the leading design destination in the region and a subsidiary of the TECOM Group, and with the support of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
“Downtown Design” brings together the most prominent local and international designers, and displays the latest trends and creative solutions in the fields of furniture, lighting, and product design. Today, it has become a major regional platform for contemporary design that strengthens Dubai’s position as a global center for creativity and innovation, and opens new horizons for cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experiences between leading professionals and emerging talents in the design sector.
Her Highness, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, praised the value of the exhibition and its impact in supporting talents and entrepreneurs in the sector, enabling and encouraging them to present their unique experiences, express their unique visions and ideas, and transform their dreams, ambitions and creativity into a sustainable economic resource. It also provides them with promising investment opportunities, which strengthens the emirate’s position as a global center for the creative economy.
During the tour, Her Highness met with a group of the most prominent designers and participants in the exhibition, and praised the modern, high-quality designs they presented in the fields of furniture, lighting, modern art pieces, and accessories.
I was briefed on a distinguished group of projects and designs bearing the imprint of a group of prominent international and regional names, including Huda Lighting, Kartell, Kohler, Poltrona Frau, Ubigi Home and Venini, in addition to Roche Bobois, Stellar Works, Calico, Woolpepper, Porada and Desalto.
Her Highness followed the work of “Finasi”, designed in the Emirates, and the “Strata” project by the Pakistani duo, mother and son, Yousuf Shahbaz and Saira Ahsan.
Her Highness also visited the “Designed in Saudi Arabia” exhibition, organized by the Architecture and Design Arts Authority of the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and “Space Design – 1971” from Sharjah, which presents innovations in material design created by designers Lina Ghaleb and Nahir Zein.
During the tour, I listened to an explanation about the annual “Tanween” design program from “Tashkeel”, in addition to the “Furniture” Fellowship from “Mike” in Abu Dhabi, which is participating for the first time in the exhibition this year.
During the tour, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inspected the Soler Lounge designed by Vive Clicquot in collaboration with Marcel Poulain Studio, in addition to an exclusive lounge by Buccellati designed by the duo David and Nicholas, which embodies a sophisticated exploration of craftsmanship and contemporary design, in addition to Habitat’s design in collaboration with Nordic Homeworks, and the Cosentino hospitality installation designed by Iterio Design Studio.
Her Highness visited the “Designers from the Emirates” exhibition with the support of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and the supervision of designer and curator Nada Debs, who was keen to guide young designers and help them translate local identity through handicrafts, taking into account market requirements and ensuring the sustainability of their work, which allowed emerging talents the opportunity to gain practical experience in the fields of design, production and business development.
“The Forum” at “Downtown Design” hosts an elite group of global and regional thought leaders, and “Editions Arts and Design” presents limited-edition artistic and design works created by creators from various countries.
