The Sharjah consultant approves his recommendations regarding the Roads and Transport Authority

Sharjah, November 10, 2017 – The Advisory Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, during its third session of the third regular session of the eleventh legislative term, which was held today at its headquarters under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Council, approved its recommendations regarding the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, which stressed the importance of continuing the distinguished efforts made by the Authority in implementing its vital projects, appreciating the effective roles the Authority plays in developing infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of the road and transport network in The emirate.
In its recommendations, the Council stressed the importance of identifying a coordinating body concerned with enhancing integration between the Roads and Transport Authority and the relevant service authorities in the emirate, with the aim of unifying data and coordinating timetables for projects in a way that contributes to speed of completion, quality of implementation, good utilization of financial resources, and achieves efficient performance that supports Sharjah’s vision of building a sustainable city and advanced and safe infrastructure.
The Council recommended coordination with the relevant authorities to develop regulatory legislation that contributes to reducing traffic congestion and regulates the use of roads and transportation in the emirate, in addition to participating in the preparation of local decisions and regulations that support the flow of traffic and enhance the safety of road users.
The recommendations stressed the use of modern technology, smart techniques and artificial intelligence in analyzing traffic data, anticipating the future of traffic, and identifying possible solutions that keep pace with the expected urban and population growth in the emirate by improving road efficiency, planning new residential complexes in a way that suits additional traffic densities, and ensuring integration between existing transportation networks.
The recommendations called for studying the transfer of truck and heavy transport traffic from Emirates Road to Al Watan Road to reduce congestion on vital roads, in coordination with the competent authorities, with the transfer of stations and systems related to trucks.
In another axis, the Council stressed the importance of creating dedicated lanes for buses and vehicles with priority traffic, with the possibility of converting them in the future to accommodate modern transportation lanes, and supporting the concept of multimodal transport that connects different destinations in the emirate, taking into account the equal number of lanes in the traffic axes from beginning to end, to avoid transit congestion and the bottleneck problem, ensuring access to an integrated transportation system linking all the emirates of the country.
The recommendations included a call to develop road networks to include effective and integrated rainwater drainage systems in a way that maintains the smooth flow of movement and the safety of the infrastructure and enhances the emirate’s ability to confront climate change and weather fluctuations.
