Unprecedented competition between sales outlets and electronic platforms in “11-11” offers

The retail trade markets in the country have witnessed, during the recent period, remarkable competition between sales outlets and electronic platforms, coinciding with the launch of expanded discount campaigns exceeding 50%, as part of the activities of the global “11-11” promotions, known in some markets as “Singles’ Day.”

Consumers told Emirates Today that this year’s discounts associated with the occasion of “11-11” were characterized by unprecedented initiatives compared to previous years, most notably the early launch of offers and the expansion of their scope, in addition to the addition of new categories of goods that were not previously included in the discounts, in addition to the participation of major electronics stores and companies.

They added that some outlets and platforms were not limited to traditional discounts, but rather provided additional benefits such as exclusive discounts when using specific bank cards according to prior agreements with banks, in addition to installment offers for purchases.

For their part, specialists in retail trade and electronics companies reported that electronic devices account for the largest share of downloads and are witnessing an unprecedented expansion, expecting retail trade sales in the country to increase at significant rates.

Expanded offers

In detail, consumer Ahmed Gamal said that many e-commerce platforms and traditional sales outlets took the initiative to launch discounts early on the occasion of the global “11-11” offers, which include wide discounts in various fields, especially electronics. He pointed out that this year’s offers were characterized by an unprecedented offering in terms of the volume of participation and the diversity of goods, in addition to the entry of outlets that were not accustomed to participating in such seasons previously. Consumer Osama Saeed mentioned that the local markets witnessed great competition between platforms and stores, as they presented offers. Expanded, the reduction rates ranged between 20% and more than 50%.

He added that the expansion of participation by new stores and platforms in the local market, which were not accustomed to participating in these discounts, contributed to enhancing the volume of sales and raising the level of competition between different brands.

As for consumer Youssef Magdy, he stated that the current offers on the occasion of “11-11” were not limited to direct discounts only, but also included additional benefits, such as special offers for holders of certain bank cards and the provision of easy installment plans for purchases, which increased the attractiveness of the offers and encouraged high consumer demand.

Intense competition

For his part, Dilip Vishal, a sales official at one of the retail chains, confirmed that the local markets are currently witnessing intense competition between platforms and stores in order to attract the largest possible number of consumers and increase market shares during the “Singles’ Day” season or “11-11” promotion events, noting that electronic devices account for the largest share of downloads.

He explained that this high level of competition encouraged the entry of new platforms and stores to participate in the offers, in addition to offering new goods that were not previously available in the discounts, which reflects positively on the retail sector in the country by reviving sales at high rates, with the offers expected to continue until after the event in a number of stores.

Miscellaneous goods

In turn, the CEO of Jumbo Electronics, Vikas Chadha, said that the company offered sales through its outlets and electronic platforms on the occasion of the “11-11” sales season, with discounts of up to 50% on various goods for phones and electronic devices, including computers, televisions, home appliances, smart wearable devices and accessories.

He added that the outlets also witnessed offers to pay purchases in installments and grant discounts to users of some credit cards when purchasing according to agreements with some banks.

Boost sales

In the same context, the head of the marketing department at Acer Middle East and Africa, Jomana Karam, stated that the company offered discount offers on the occasion of the “11-11” season, which included various products such as laptops, screens, and gaming accessories, with discount rates ranging between 10 and 40%, and she pointed out that these offers would enhance sales in the country’s markets during the last quarter of the current year.

In addition, Nilesh Raju, development director at one of the e-commerce platforms, said that the “11-11” sales this year were characterized by a significant expansion, whether in terms of the number of participating platforms and stores or the diversity of goods included in the offers. He stressed that this occasion has become a major incentive to enhance market shares and raise levels of competition in the local retail sector.
