Gunmen publicly kill a TikTok influencer in Mali

Authorities in Mali said on Monday that gunmen killed a TikTok influencer who posted videos in support of the West African country’s army.

Yahya Tandina, mayor of Timbuktu, told the Associated Press (AP): “Gunmen kidnapped TikTok user Meriem Cissa last Friday while she was at a weekly market in Ichle… The next day in the evening, the same gunmen brought her to Independence Square in Tonka and executed her in front of the crowds.”

Mamadou Kounebo, mayor of Tonka in Timbuktu province, confirmed the incident, but did not provide further information.

No party claimed responsibility for the incident.
