"Abu Dhabi Ports" and"Eurasian Economic Commission" You sign a cooperation agreement

ABU DHABI, 12 November / WAM / Abu Dhabi Ports Group signed an agreement with the Eurasian Economic Commission, the supreme regulatory body of the Eurasian Economic Union, under which opportunities for cooperation in the fields of transport, infrastructure and digitization of trade in the Eastern European and Central Asia regions will be explored.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Arzibek Kogochev, Member of the Board of Directors and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Captain Mohammed Juma Al Shamsi, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

His Excellency Arzibek Kogochev said that strengthening cooperation in the field of transport and infrastructure with a world-class partner such as Abu Dhabi Ports Group is an important step towards continuing the Commission’s journey to develop and support economic integration in the Eurasian Economic Union, pointing out that the agreement provides an opportunity to consolidate the Union’s role as a major driver of growth and economic cooperation, which contributes to achieving development and prosperity for member states and communities in the region.

The terms of the agreement include that the Abu Dhabi Ports Group and the Eurasian Economic Commission will work to accelerate the pace of cooperation and exchange of knowledge in the fields of transport, infrastructure and digitization of trade, including the possibility of establishing new logistics centers in the region.

Aspects of cooperation include unifying and accelerating the use of electronic document management systems, integrating advanced digital systems, harmonizing regulatory frameworks, and attracting investments to develop new logistical infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Abu Dhabi Ports Group will study investment opportunities and establish logistics centers and marine stations in the Eurasian Economic Union countries, in addition to expanding the scope of digital systems integration to include non-member countries as well.

Captain Mohammed Juma Al Shamsi said that the agreement represents an important step within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s efforts to enhance connectivity between global trade corridors, and that it reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the Eurasian Economic Union.

He added that the group is looking forward, through sharing its extensive experience in the fields of terminal operation, digital transformation and maritime services, to building more flexible and efficient supply chains that will benefit it and its partners.

He added that this cooperation comes in line with Abu Dhabi Ports’ vision to expand into the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union countries, thus contributing to the prosperity of its partners’ businesses and advancing economic development, in line with the vision of the wise leadership in the UAE.

It is worth noting that the United Arab Emirates has become a pivotal trade center for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, with the volume of trade exchange reaching about $30 billion in 2024, an increase of 27% compared to 2023, according to data from the Ministry of Foreign Trade.

Abu Dhabi Ports Group is a major investor and leading enabler of trade in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, as it works to develop logistics centers within the Middle Trade Corridor linking China and Europe. The group has recently invested in logistics, ports and shipping projects in Georgia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

In Kazakhstan, the group is currently cooperating with the national shipping company Kazmor Transflot to transport Kazakh oil across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, where it is pumped into Western pipeline networks. The group also announced earlier this year the establishment of Gulf Link, a joint venture with the Kazakh National Railways Company, with the aim of enhancing multimodal connectivity and accelerating digital transformation in the region.
