"While we breathe"..displayed within offers "The gala" At the Cairo Film Festival… tonight
Showing tonight, Thursday, November 13, 2025, as part of the Gala screenings at the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, the feature films "While We Breathe", "Türkiye" Directed by Seamus Alton, at 9:00 pm on the Grand Theater of the Cairo Opera House.
The events of the film take place in a small town located in the Anatolian region during the early 2000s, where the 10-year-old girl, Esma, begins to face the collapse of her quiet world after an explosion in a nearby factory causes the outbreak of a massive, merciless fire. As toxic smoke engulfs the town and pollutes the land, her family finds itself in a struggle for survival, so Esma begins to ask existential questions about life, death, and survival, in a work that combines human sensitivity with a poetic and environmental dimension at the same time.
The film “While We Breathe” represents… The first feature-length narrative experience is directed by Seamus Altun, who graduated from the Department of Cinema and Television at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2011. Altun has developed a diverse career in the fields of commercials, television documentaries, and cinematic narrative, focusing his work on intimate human stories and social and political themes.
In 2024, with funding from the Turkish Ministry of Culture, he completed his first feature film, “While “We Breathe”, which reflects his artistic vision based on contemplating the relationship between man and nature, and how disaster can reveal the essence of humanity in its weakest moments.
