"Tera gin" Expands its clean energy project portfolio with the start-up of a project "Monte Cristo 1" Wind energy in Texas

Hidalgo – Texas, November 14 / WAM / TerraGen, one of the largest independent and integrated renewable energy companies in the United States, owned by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” and “Agnew Infrastructure Partners”, announced the start of operation of the “Monte Cristo 1” wind energy project.
The station, which has a capacity of 238.5 megawatts and is located in Hidalgo County, Texas, contributes to the production of more than 850 gigawatts/hour of clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to supplying about 81,000 homes with electricity annually.
In this context, two long-term energy purchase agreements were signed.
On the occasion of the project’s operation, an official ceremony was held at the site, in the presence of representatives of the companies participating in the development of the station, officials and members of the local community.
John Honor, Chief Financial Officer of TerraGen, said: We are pleased to launch this important wind energy project, which came as a result of the great efforts and hard work of hundreds of people who contributed to the development of the plant. This project reflects TerraGen’s commitment to providing renewable energy supplies throughout Texas and the United States, and enhancing the reliability of the regional grid through the production of clean and sustainable energy, in addition to successful investment in our local communities.
The “Monte Cristo 1” wind energy project provided approximately 280 job opportunities during the course of development and construction work, with more than 490,000 working hours recorded without any accidents that required stopping work during the construction and transition phases.
The project also contributed to improving the local community’s infrastructure, by rehabilitating more than 11 miles of Texas Department of Transportation roads and 25 miles of county roads.
After construction, the plant will continue to provide long-term economic benefits to the region, including generating more than $100 million in property taxes, landowner payments and other local contributions over the life of the project.
Richard F. said: Cortez, Hidalgo County Judge: We welcome TerraGen’s continued investment in Hidalgo County. This project is not only limited to producing clean, renewable energy, but also supports our community members and contributes to long-term economic growth. By providing quality jobs, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy, and supporting basic public services, such projects contribute to developing the workforce and attracting talent, in addition to consolidating Hidalgo County’s position as a leading destination for promoting sustainable development.
The “Monte Cristo 1” project is the second wind energy project implemented by Terra Gen in the state of Texas after the “Texas Big Spring” wind power station, bringing the total capacity of the company’s projects in the field of clean energy within the state to 273 MW. A license has also been obtained to develop the second phase of the “Monte Cristo” project, which is currently being prepared for implementation.
“Monte Cristo 1” is the first project to be completed since Masdar acquired a 50% stake in TerraGen in 2024, which confirms Masdar’s long-term commitment to investing in the energy sector in the United States, and reflects the importance of this strategic market within its portfolio of projects spread around the world.
