Africa is experiencing its worst cholera outbreak in 25 years

The African Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the continent is witnessing the worst outbreak of Cholera 25 years ago.

The Center explained in its data that it recorded about 300,000 cases of the disease, suspected cases, and more than 7,000 deaths, an increase of more than 30% over the total infections recorded last year, noting that the increase is due to fragile water systems and conflicts.

Increase in infections

The Center’s data shows that Angola and Burundi witnessed an increase in infection cases in the last few weeks. The past has been driven by poor access to potable water.

The center said that the outlook in conflict-stricken areas remains worrying, as the disease is spreading rapidly in overcrowded camps.

On the other hand, the center said that the outbreak of monkeypox is declining in some of the most affected places, but it remains a concern in places such as Kenya, Guinea, Liberia and Ghana.
