Egypt bids farewell to the Junior World Cup after losing three times to Switzerland

The Egyptian national team exited the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, losing to its Swiss counterpart by three goals to one, in the round of 32 of the tournament held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
After the Egyptian team ranked third in its group and qualified with Venezuela and England, it reached the round of 32 as one of the best teams that ranked third, to meet Switzerland, which leads Group Six with seven points after two wins over Mexico and Côte d’Ivoire and a draw with South Korea.
The Swiss team took the lead in the 15th minute through Nephew Shearer, before Ethan Brochins added the second goal in the 39th minute.
The Swiss team scored the third goal through Jill Steele in the 58th minute, while Anas Rushdi scored Egypt’s only goal in the first minute of stoppage time in the second half.
The Swiss team will meet in the round of 16 with the winner of another match being held today in the round of 32, which brings together Ireland and Canada.
