"Emsteel" You win a title "Sustainability Pioneer 2026" From the World Steel Association for the third year in a row

Abu Dhabi, April 15 / WAM / The Emsteel Group announced that it has been awarded the title of “Sustainability Pioneer 2026” by the World Steel Association for the third year in a row, making it the only company in the Middle East and North Africa region to win this global title, which strengthens its position as one of the leaders in the field of sustainable steel manufacturing and decarbonization in the industrial sector worldwide.
The announcement came during the Sustainability Pioneers Awards ceremony, which was held within the 2026 Extraordinary General Meeting of the World Steel Association in Berlin, Germany. These awards honor companies that are committed to enhancing sustainability in their operations, by adopting the best practices and innovative solutions in the global steel industry.
This achievement reflects the efforts of the Emsteel Group to establish sustainability as an integrated approach to all its operations, by continuing to implement its strategic plans to reduce emissions, expand the use of innovative technologies, and enhance its operational efficiency in the iron and cement sectors, which contributes to achieving tangible results that support its long-term goals in this field.
During 2025, Emsteel continued to achieve significant progress in reducing carbon emissions, as it succeeded in reducing total emissions by 34% compared to 2019, with a continuous improvement in emissions intensity.
It also recorded the lowest levels of emissions intensity since that year, reaching 0.637 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per ton of steel and 0.638 tons per ton of cement, which reflects its ability to continue growth while reducing emissions by improving its performance and developing the efficiency of its operational processes.
This achievement was the culmination of Emsteel’s approach to improving energy efficiency, enhancing reliance on clean electricity, and accelerating the development of carbon capture and circular economy solutions. Clean energy has become a fundamental pillar in the group’s operations, as it constituted 88.7% of electricity consumption in the iron sector and 28.6% in the cement sector, supported by clean energy certificates, which contributed to a significant reduction in Scope 2 emissions according to the market methodology.
In the same context, carbon capture technologies continued their role in reducing Scope 1 emissions, in addition to energy efficiency programs that achieved a positive environmental and economic impact, within an integrated operational approach that combines performance efficiency and the promotion of sustainable best practices.
Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Rumaithi, CEO of the “Emsteel” Group, said that the group’s obtaining the title of “Sustainability Pioneer 2026” by the World Steel Association reflects the qualitative achievements it continues to achieve in the development and production of low-emission steel, pointing out that while sustainability remains the basic pillar in all of “Emsteel’s” work, this global achievement reflects the solidity of its approach and its continuous efforts towards achieving its long-term strategic goals in this field.
He added that during the year 2025, the group witnessed an acceleration in the pace of implementation, as it transformed its ambitions into practical and tangible steps by accelerating emissions reduction initiatives while maintaining strong operational performance, and at the same time continues to focus on providing practical and widely applicable solutions that support the transition towards a low-carbon industry and contribute to achieving sustainable added value.
The Emsteel Group also continued to strengthen its position in industrial innovation, by launching the first pilot project for the electric operational gas heater (ePGH) in the steel sector, and making clear progress in adopting green hydrogen initiatives, in addition to expanding recycling solutions and converting industrial waste into low-carbon materials within the TrueGreen program, in a way that supports efforts to build a more sustainable and flexible industrial system.
At the global level, Emsteel continues its active role in enhancing sustainability efforts, through its participation in the Global Alliance to Decarbonize the Industrial Sector, launched by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in cooperation with international partners to accelerate the shift towards more sustainable industrial systems, and support the UAE’s goals to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
