Al Ain, November 14 / WAM / The Al Ain City Municipality announced that 18 of Al Ain’s parks won the international “Green Flag” award, in addition to Al Ain Oasis in the Heritage Parks category, during a ceremony held today in Al Jahili Park.

The award is given to parks and public facilities that adhere to the highest international standards in the areas of sustainable management, environmental quality, and visitor experience.

This win comes as a culmination of Al Ain Municipality’s efforts to develop and manage green spaces in accordance with international best practices, in a way that enhances the city of Al Ain’s position as one of the most beautiful green cities in the region, and embodies its commitment to supporting the directions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life.

The winning parks included the Central Park in Ghanima, the Happiness Park, the Green Meadows Park, Al-Faqa’ Park, and Al-Shuwaib Park, participating for the first time in the award, along with a number of other parks that maintained the award for the year 2025, and which were distinguished by the quality of their facilities, environmental diversity, and interest in sustainability.

Engineer Aisha Salem Al Balushi, head of the Green Flag Award preparation team in the Al Ain Municipality, confirmed that this achievement reflects the municipality’s keenness to raise the level of parks and public facilities in line with the Green Flag Award standards, noting that 18 parks winning this international recognition out of 19 park files submitted for the award is the result of continuous efforts by the technical, engineering and administrative work teams working to develop the urban environment and improve the visitors’ experience.

She explained that 3 female engineers were qualified in the Al Ain City Municipality, which enabled them to obtain an arbitrator’s certificate for the standards of the International Green Flag Award, which helps them participate in evaluating various parks in the country, and they are currently participating in evaluating 20 parks in various emirates of the country.

For his part, Chris Wolman, a judge for the Green File Award from the United Kingdom, said: We are in the city of Al Ain to celebrate 18 gardens receiving the Green File Award. We evaluate 2,500 gardens around the world, and gardens help improve the quality of life and community health and also enhance communication between community members.

He said: We began 10 years ago evaluating parks for this award in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and now nearly 100 parks have won the award, and in the city of Al Ain, 18 parks participated in the file submitted for the award, and all of these parks won the award, and this indicates the efforts and hard work of the work team in Al Ain Municipality.

Rettie Maung-Holmes, from London, expressed her happiness in participating in the ceremony announcing the victory of Al Ain Gardens as winner of the Green Flag Award, which we felt as judges and volunteers for the award with the great effort and outstanding work of the work team in Al Ain Municipality during the evaluation phase.

The Green Flag Award is one of the most prominent international awards in the field of management and maintenance of public parks and open areas, and is given to entities that apply the best standards in environmental planning, community management, and visitor experience, which reflects the status of the winning parks as sustainable and environmentally friendly entertainment destinations.

This coronation represents an incentive to continue the process of development and innovation in the management of parks and public facilities, in order to achieve the vision of the Al Ain City Municipality to provide a sustainable green environment and public facilities with international standards that contribute to enhancing the well-being and happiness of the community.
