"Emirates Copyright" Enter into a license agreement with "American Sharjah "


Sharjah, 16 November / WAM / The Emirates Copyright Management Association (ERRA) signed a licensing agreement with the American University of Sharjah in the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the University and Honorary President of the Association. Thus, the American University of Sharjah becomes the second university in the country to obtain the license and the first government academic institution to adopt an integrated model for protecting copyright and copyright in educational settings.
The agreement was signed as part of the association’s participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 as part of its efforts to establish a sustainable academic environment based on the organized and responsible use of knowledge resources and ensuring the fair distribution of revenues from authors and publishers in the UAE and abroad in line with the best international practices followed in the education and research sector.
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi said that signing the agreement is an important step towards promoting a conscious academic environment that respects creativity and enshrines correct practices in the exchange of knowledge. We at the American University of Sharjah believe that preserving copyright is not only a legal obligation, but also part of our responsibility towards supporting scientific research and intellectual production and contributing to the development and advancement of the publishing sector.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi praised the growing role played by the Emirates Copyright Management Association in regulating the fair use of intellectual works and ensuring the rights of their owners, explaining that granting the university this license consolidates its position as a pioneering educational edifice and makes it a model to be emulated in the academic sector within the country and at the regional level.
For his part, Mohammed Bin Dukhain, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, stressed the importance of signing the licensing agreement with the university, describing this cooperation as a new qualitative addition in terms of supporting the creativity system in the UAE, and at the same time reflects the American University of Sharjah’s commitment to implementing a conscious and fair model for reusing knowledge.
For his part, Dr. Todd Laursen, Director of the American University of Sharjah, said that through this agreement with the Emirates Copyright Management Association, the university is now able to make educational materials available on campus and online with confidence and clarity.
