Flydubai buys 60 engines from General Electric for its Boeing 787-9 fleet

Flydubai and General Electric Aviation today signed a new agreement to purchase 60 GEnx-1B engines to supply the carrier’s first wide-body fleet of 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft with these engines.

The agreement, which was signed during the Dubai Airshow 2025, includes spare engines and long-term support services to support the launch of the carrier’s operations on long-haul flights.

This agreement supports Flydubai’s strategy for continued growth and expansion of its network, enabling it to increase capacity on its current destinations and meet the growing demand from the number of its passengers. Flydubai was established in 2008 and has witnessed remarkable growth. It currently serves more than 135 destinations in 57 countries, and the carrier is currently working on adding long-haul destinations to its growing network.

The selection of GEnx-1B engines confirms flydubai’s confidence in GE Aviation’s solutions, which provide the best performance, durability and fuel efficiency in its class. Designed for robust performance and reliability, these engines are essential for the carrier’s continued growth in the region’s operating environments.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “Over the past years, flydubai has established itself as a major player in the aviation sector, driven by a vision aimed at facilitating travel through Dubai as a global aviation hub. The performance and durability of our engines plays an essential role in the success of our operations and our plans to expand our fleet, especially as we prepare to welcome the Boeing 787 aircraft into our fleet in the coming years. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with GE Aviation as we move towards a new phase of Growth.”
