Kamal Abu Rayya for"Rosal Youssef Gate": "Natural disaster" He rediscovered my comedic side

Spontaneous, funny, and with a unique sense of humor, this is the image that surprised the audience with the able artist Kamal Abu Rayya, in the series “Natural Disaster,” where he gave a distinguished comedic performance alongside the artist Muhammad Salam.

With his wit and limitless talent, Abu Rayya continued his constant endeavor to present everything that is new and distinctive to his audience. Despite his artistic history full of successful works, he decided to embark on a new comedic experience in a “natural disaster.” For the first time, to reaffirm his flexibility and ability to adapt to different roles if he is convinced of the role and the work as a whole, as happened in "Natural Disaster" And “Sensitive String 2”.

In his interview with “Rose Al-Youssef Gate”, Kamal Abu Rayya reveals the reasons for his enthusiasm for this series, the behind-the-scenes of its preparations, and his advice to his son about art.

The comedic performance she presented in “Natural Disaster” It attracted the attention of many.. Did you imagine this amount of praise?

"Indeed, I expected the success of the series as a whole, and I was optimistic that I would appear in the work in a manner befitting my name and history, but to be honest, I did not expect the wonderful reactions that came to the series."

When you were offered the series, what made you excited to accept it? Was there anything in particular that caught your attention?

Mr. Ahmed Atef, the screenwriter, presents an elegant comedy, not a comedy that is contrived or full of foolishness, but rather a comedy that results from careful drawing of the characters and their good design. Likewise, "the theme" The same thing on which the work is based is a deep idea and lighthearted at the same time. As for me, the series was offered to me through the United Company, and not through the director or author of the work. When the company offered me the work, I read it and met director Hossam Hamed and screenwriter Ahmed Atef. The meeting was attended by Mohamed Salam, the hero of the series, and Jihad Hossam El-Din, the heroine of the series. We talked about the details, and the truth is that the series’ script is very good, well-written, and contains many details that confirm the author’s awareness and ability to craft a distinct dramatic work. I agreed immediately (at length).

Was there a moment of hesitation when you knew it would be a comedy? How did you deal with the idea of presenting a role of this color?

No, I did not hesitate at all, because I play the character (Character) and I liked the text and the role, so how could I hesitate? What makes me hesitate? An actor has been offered a work that is very well written, a nice, light-hearted issue that touches a lot of audiences, that catches the eye, that has never been talked about before, that no one has talked about before. The story talks about the suffering of a simple young man and his young wife, who do not want to have children because of their small income. But the strange irony and irony of fate that achieved the comedic aspect of the work is that they have seven children, and this is a nice idea, so how could I hesitate to participate in it?".

The audience noticed the smoothness of your comedy performance in the series. What is the secret behind that smoothness? Was there a specific method that I relied on?

I thank God, and praise be to God, that my work was admired by the public in this way. This is the nature of my performance, and this is my school of performance throughout my life, whether the work is dramatic, tragic or comedic. This has been my style and method of performing throughout my career, and thank God I was successful this time in comedy drama.

Preparing for a comic character of course requires a special approach. How did you go about building this character? Were there special challenges in this context?

The method of preparations themselves did not change; We read the written work and absorb it, then we understand what is below and above the lines, and we understand what the writer (screenwriter) wants to say, and what he is aiming for. Understanding the text and the goals that the author seeks to achieve is enough for you to represent correctly and work in the right way.

Many believe that a “natural disaster” As a rediscovery of you. Do you agree with their opinion?

They are right, of course, because people are accustomed to me presenting characters devoid of a comedic aspect, such as autobiographical characters, and heavy, difficult, and complex characters in many works. Therefore, they were surprised when she presented a simple and smooth character, and her actions and actions led to laughter. This, of course, happens when the actor has a tendency towards a sense of humor, and is able to achieve the equation of understanding what he says, when and how the motor expression is used to produce laughter.

With the success of this series, it seems that comedy shows will increase. Are you open to doing more comedies in the future?

If the script is well-written, and is not the kind of comedy that is contrived, or has crude characters that force the audience to laugh, then I will submit it. Otherwise, I will only agree to high-end comedy, which stems from good character drawing, and at the same time is based on a specific situation or situations that result in laughter.

In the series “A Feeling Chord 2”, she also amazed the audience. Some of them wondered why this big change in your performance. Where did you hide all this excellence and diversity?

I did not hide it, but the texts that were presented to me were not at the level of this space and this type of work.

What attracted you to the character of Hashem Al-Qadi in the series “A Feeling Witr”?

The diversity in the character of Hashem Al-Qadi, the old man who loves his children and at the same time loves himself, appears through the great contradiction in his personality. He enters into conflict with his children despite his intense love for them, and he is the man who “pampers” Himself and wants to live and be happy. He is married and a "Sugar Daddy" He loves life, and at the same time his relationship with his daughter and son is full of challenge and affection, and at the same time tenderness and love. Therefore, it has a rich character and is full of diverse and good spaces.

The late artist Nour El-Sherif, in one of his interviews, said that you act in a way close to his style of embodying characters, and pointed out that you "detail" The character and his tickets in the same way he used to. How do you see this analogy?

Exactly, Professor Nour Al-Sharif, may God have mercy on him, was our professor and very academic, studying, understanding, analyzing, and working in an academic and scientific manner.

What advice did you make sure to give to your son Ahmed Kamal Abu Rayya when he entered the field of acting?

I told him: Love your work and be dedicated to it, and expect to stumble once and succeed once until you stand on solid ground. Do not be tempted by success, and do not be defeated by stumbling.
