The official spokesman for… "Saudi countryside programme" Majid Al-Braikan said that the coffee production development program aims to introduce and spread Saudi coffee into the crop structure, as one of the cash crops, and as a source for diversifying the production base, in addition to raising the rate of self-sufficiency in Saudi coffee and reducing the rate of its imports from abroad, and adding value to coffee through manufacturing and marketing its various products, in addition to contributing to improving the livelihoods of small coffee farmers and producers, increasing their income, and providing job opportunities for young people in the production areas, and within the production chain for manufacturing. And marketing.
Main axes
Al-Braikan added that the first subprogramme for developing Saudi coffee is based on several main axes to achieve its goals, which are the application of good agricultural practices, and the establishment of quality centers for research and studies; With the aim of developing the cultivation of various coffee crops, establishing production, marketing and manufacturing cooperatives, and coffee marketing centres, in addition to constructing small dams and barriers to harvest rainwater and provide irrigation water, in addition to using modern technologies before and after harvesting operations. To reduce waste, raise the efficiency of water use in agriculture, and build the capabilities of technical personnel for agricultural institutions, in addition to facilitating access to financial financing through the Agricultural Development Fund, providing direct financial support to small agricultural producers, establishing centers to provide extension services, studies and applied research, establishing nurseries and model farms to spread and develop Saudi coffee cultivation, and implementing plant quarantine systems.
It is noteworthy that the coffee sector is one of the eight sectors supported by the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, to contribute to achieving food security and diversification. Agricultural crops, improving the livelihood of small farmers, producers, and productive rural families.
