The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomes the United Nations’ adoption of resolutions in favor of Palestine, including the renewal of its mandate "UNRWA"

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly, in its Fourth Committee concerned with special political issues and decolonization and its specialized committees, of a package of resolutions related to Palestine.

 

The resolutions included assistance to Palestinian refugees, extending the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA), the property of Palestinian refugees, Israeli practices that affect human rights, Israeli colonies, and the work of the special committee concerned. By investigating Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.

 

 

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, today, Wednesday, that the resolutions’ receipt of broad and unprecedented international support came as an embodiment of the status of the Palestinian issue in the global conscience, and a clear rejection of colonial occupation policies. She added that the overwhelming vote confirms the international community’s rejection of annexation, colonization, forced displacement, collective punishment, the widespread destruction of infrastructure in the occupied Palestinian territory, and genocide in the Gaza Strip, considering these practices as grave violations of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions and Security Council resolutions, most notably the resolution 2334.

 

 

The Ministry stressed that the adoption of these decisions comes at a very important moment, in light of the crimes of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement to which the Palestinian people are exposed, and the systematic violations committed by the occupation authorities in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and in the besieged Gaza Strip, including illegal colonization, annexation, land seizure, and the destruction of property and infrastructure, in violation of It is blatant to international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

 

 

It considered that the importance of these international resolutions emerges in that they reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian refugee issue and their inalienable rights, most importantly their right to return to their homes and property and be compensated for them, and clearly rejects all Israeli attempts to erase or circumvent these rights.

 

 

The Foreign Ministry said that the resolutions stress the necessity of protecting refugees’ property and preserving its records, the continuation of UNRWA’s mandate, and providing financial and political support to it, as it is the first line of defense for millions of Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation.

 

 

It considered that the adoption of these resolutions reaffirms the international community’s rejection of Israeli practices. Colonialism, including colonization, annexation, and changing the geographical and demographic character of the occupied Palestinian territory, and demands the immediate cessation of all colonial activities as illegal, null and void under international law and Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2334. The Ministry considered that this emphasizes the necessity of providing international protection to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, in light of the continuing crimes of the occupation and attacks by the colonizers, and the importance of ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, and working immediately to reconstruct the Strip. She stressed that this international consensus constitutes an essential pillar in the ongoing Palestinian diplomatic effort to protect national rights, and confront the occupation’s attempts aimed at undermining the international consensus on Palestine or legitimizing its illegal policies.

 

 

The Foreign Ministry and expatriates expressed their Its appreciation to the countries that voted in support of these resolutions, calling on them to translate this political and legal position into practical measures that guarantee the protection of our Palestinian people, enhance their right to self-determination and embody their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as this is the only way to achieve peace, security and stability in the region.
