Fayrouz…an icon that inhabits souls and a voice that is not bounded by the horizon

November 21st does not go unnoticed; It is the date in which a star shone that did not disappear from the sky of Arab art, but rather became an ambassador for generations and times, and the beloved morning companion whose sunshine is not complete without her voice echoing in every home. Her voice is not just musical frequencies, but rather the “throwing” of souls, and a silent force that takes us back to the first encounters and the simplest human feelings.

It is Fayrouz; The one that carried in her throat the echo of the rocks of Lebanon and the warmth of its sun, becoming the calm and sublime face of an East burdened with noise. Each tune of her songs is like a light coming from afar, illuminating our insides and reminding us that beauty is still possible.

On the anniversary of her birth, we begin our journey from the birth of Nehad Haddad, the name that hid the deepest secrets behind it in 1935, all the way to the “turquoise” aura, which shone when it met the genius of the Rahbani brothers. Here, cooperation was not only a pure art, but it was a destiny that wrote an immortal love story, which culminated in marriage to Assi Rahbani, making this partnership the key to a legend whose luster has not faded to this day.

The daughter of Lebanon was not just a daughter of the plain, the sea, and the mountains, but rather she was the daughter of all places and all times. It is the summation of times, civilizations and geography, which concealed in the fabric of its sound all the secrets, such as: the flow of eternal springs, the passage of strong winds over snow-covered mountain peaks, and the dreamy whisper of waves on the seashore. And above all, the voice that weaves the impossible into a rope of endless singing and rapture, crowning it with peace and love.

Fayrouz and Assi…an artistic meeting:

On her journey to search for her artistic self, Fayrouz was aware of her great talent waiting for a spark. This genius exploded when she met, in 1952, the brothers Assi and Mansour Rahbani. It was an artistic meeting; The brothers knew, with their exceptional genius, that they had found a “treasure” in every sense of the word.

With the flow of immortal songs, the collaboration crossed the barrier of great art to being filled with the other, and the need for it. The love story of Fayrouz and Assi was like an immortal song played by a brilliant musician and sung by a legendary artist, and her heart quickly beat for Assi. So she married him in 1955. This marriage produced four children: Ziad Rahbani (December 31, 1955 – July 26, 2025), who later became a great artistic stature, then Hali (in 1958, one of the people of determination), then Layal (in 1960, who died in 1988). Finally, Rima, born in 1965, became a writer and director. At that early age, specifically in 1957, after her first public concerts in Baalbek, Fairouz received the Order of Merit from the Lebanese President at the time, confirming that she had become, and still is, the cosmic voice that travels to galaxies and universes.

A “turquoise” launch sweeps the world:

After that, Fairouz set off to sing in the greatest theaters and halls in the world, from “Albert Hall” in London, to “Carnegie Hall” in New York, presenting dozens of songs and plays that dealt with all the details of Lebanese and human life. But Fayrouz’s greatest genius was evident, specifically, in that diamond voice when mixed with the crazy music that the Rahbanis were creating. In the mid-seventies, Fayrouz achieved what few artists in the world have achieved, which was the issuance of commemorative stamps in her country, in commemoration of her artistic status, which surpassed the international level. Since the emergence of her star, Fayrouz has become a daily “ritual” for millions around the world. They only drink morning coffee while traveling with the sound of it, shaking off their fatigue, and reclining on silk music. The suns of their evenings do not set unless they are immersed in her songs, and the spectra of the beloved do not sweeten except with the presence of the turquoise voice, and the contemplations of a lover are not valid unless Turquoise is present in all her splendor and eternal charm.
