Hussein Fahmy dedicates the closing of the Cairo Festival to the voice of the child Hind Ragab

The closing ceremony of the 46th session of the Cairo International Film Festival witnessed a poignant humanitarian moment, after the festival’s president, artist Hussein Fahmy, stood on the stage after a screening of  A picture of the Palestinian girl Hind Rajab accompanied by a recording of her last voice.

Fahmy said that what the audience heard seemed like a movie scene, but it was painful because it was real, stressing that Hind, who was no more than six years old, faced long hours of terror before she died after her family members were killed by occupation bullets.

Fahmy explained that the power of cinema lies in its ability to preserve memory and record the truth, stressing that the stories of children who look like Hind are not numbers, but rather human stories that must remain present in consciousness.

Fahmy announced his happiness at choosing the film "The Voice of Hind Rajab" to be the closing film of the festival, noting that the current session witnessed a great demand for the competition’s screenings, in addition to various activities including workshops, master classes, restored film screenings, and the festival market.

The festival president thanked the Ministry of Culture, headed by Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, and all the ministries and supporting bodies, in addition to the Egyptian Opera House, stressing that what was achieved was the result of the cooperation of state institutions.

He also appreciated the efforts of the festival’s work team, including the management, artistic and technical committees, and organizers of the opening and closing ceremonies, praising the role played by the authorities responsible for the red carpet, preparing the halls, and the accompanying music.

At the end of his speech, Hussein Fahmy congratulated the Qatari people on the launch of the Doha Film Festival, announcing the signing of a new cooperation agreement between the Cairo Film Festival and the Film Committee in the Media City in Qatar, considering it a step that supports the Arab film industry.
