Polluted rivers prevent Thais from eating fish

A Thai fisherman holds empty fishing nets while fishing in the Mekong River, where fish prices have dropped significantly, and locals rarely eat fish from the rivers for fear of pollution, amid increased extraction of rare minerals and gold from the river’s source in neighboring Myanmar. Unregulated operations may lead to the release of toxic chemicals, according to a report by the Stimson Center in Chiang Saen, northern Thailand.
