Scandals shake the Miss Universe Organization.. What is the story?

A court in Thailand issued an arrest warrant for Jakavong “Ann” Jakratgatep, one of the co-owners of the Miss Universe Organization, after she failed to appear before the court in a fraud case dating back to 2023. She was then released on bail, and the court set a new date for the hearing on December 26.

Jakavong and her company, JKN Global Group Public Co. Ltd., are facing charges of defrauding investors during the sale of the company’s bonds in 2023, resulting in losses estimated at about $930,000, in light of the company’s ongoing financial crises, as a result of which the company entered debt rehabilitation procedures before the bankruptcy court, with debts amounting to about $93 million.

Jackavong is a prominent figure in Thailand, who has participated in reality television shows. This year’s edition of the Miss Universe contest in Bangkok also witnessed a series of problems, including the withdrawal of judges and criticism of possible manipulation of the results, amid police investigations into illegal advertisements for electronic casinos.
