Luxor Festival of Arabic Poetry…a dialogue that combines Arabic calligraphy, poetry and criticism

Luxor – Egypt, November 29 / WAM / Yesterday, as part of the activities of the Luxor Festival of Arabic Poetry, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture, the Arabic Calligraphy Arts Exhibition, organized by the House of Poetry in Luxor, opened at the Egyptian Public Library – Luxor Branch.

The exhibition was opened by His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, accompanied by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs. The attendees toured the spaces of the exhibition, which includes 26 calligraphy works by a number of the most prominent Arabic calligraphy artists from various governorates of Egypt, where the works were distributed in a variety of styles that blend the aesthetics of calligraphy schools and the masterpieces of Arabic calligraphy.

This exhibition comes within the framework of the Luxor House of Poetry’s keenness to affirm the Arab identity and consolidate the values ​​of beauty in the hearts of the public, and in continuation of its approach to achieving integration between the arts and literature in a way that enhances the presence of the values ​​with which poetry and Arabic calligraphy intersect in their noble creative and human essence. The exhibition also confirms the importance of the Arabic letter as a vibrant art capable of continuing the journey between the ancient past and the contemporary vision.

Dr. Muhammad Hassani Ali, Director General of the Egyptian Public Library in Luxor, confirmed that Sharjah adds an important global dimension to the Arab cultural scene and reflects an integrated vision to support creators of poetry, arts, criticism and literature in the Arab world amid the continuous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Hassani expressed the appreciation of the library and the Luxor Center for Cultural Heritage for the role played by the House of Poetry in Luxor in serving culture and creativity, explaining that this cooperation reflects mutual trust between the two institutions and a common desire to make Luxor an effective platform for arts and literature.

Officials of the Sharjah Department of Culture also attended, as part of the festival’s activities, a literary symposium entitled “Cultural and Artistic Patterns in Contemporary Arabic Poetry,” during which a group of poets, critics and academics gathered to discuss developments in the modern Arab poetic scene.

In addition to their attendance at a session of poetry readings, the poems varied between sentimental, patriotic, and humanitarian, as they reflected the personal experiences of the poets to form an integrated poetic painting.
