The University of Sharjah participates in the UNESCO Chair Conference in Turkey


Istanbul, 30 November / WAM / The Foundation for the History of Science among Arabs and Muslims at the University of Sharjah participated in the Third International Conference of the UNESCO Chair, which was hosted by Ibn Khaldun University in Istanbul under the title “Transcontinental Exchange of Knowledge and Building Scientific Bridges between the Islamic World and Latin America,” with the broad participation of researchers and experts from a number of countries, which was organized in partnership between the Institute for the Alliance of Civilizations, the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Science among Arabs and Muslims, and the UNESCO Chair at the National University of Mexico.
Dr. Masoud Idris, Director of the Foundation, delivered the keynote speech at the opening, in which he reviewed the scientific impact of Islamic civilization in shaping global knowledge, and the role of Andalusia and Muslim sailors in transmitting science and developing maps and navigation, stressing that “history is not a single vision, but a multi-faceted canvas.”
He stressed the need to reread the history of the “New World” from a scientific and civilizational perspective that reflects the Islamic contribution to the knowledge movement.
Idris stressed the University of Sharjah’s keenness to strengthen scientific diplomacy and develop joint research initiatives between the Islamic world and Latin America, especially in the fields of digitization, heritage preservation, and humanities.
Researchers from the University of Sharjah participated in the conference sessions with a number of studies on digital preservation, cognitive justice, cultural diplomacy, and intercultural dialogue, in addition to scientific reviews in the history of astronomy.
Dr. Hairu Okandwa and Dr. Nadia Al Hosani moderated a number of sessions, while a number of researchers presented studies that addressed the role of scholarship and exchange of experiences in enhancing scientific and cultural communication.
Dr. Masoud Idris chaired a session that discussed scientific exchanges between the Islamic world and Latin America and their impact on the development of knowledge across continents.
