The Ministry of Health suspends the practice license of a health practitioner who promoted exosome injections in violation of the approved instructions for using the product

The Ministry of Health initiated its regulatory procedures against a health practitioner who appeared in content circulating on social media platforms, which included promoting the use of the “exosome” preparation by injection, in violation of the controls of the Food and Drug Authority and the instructions for using the product, and making claims of its safety based on personal experiences, in a manner inconsistent with the regulatory controls and ethics of health practice, as part of the Ministry’s ongoing oversight efforts to enhance compliance with health systems and regulations and protect the safety of beneficiaries.
The Ministry explained that the health practitioner’s violations included promoting the use of the product in a way that violates its approval and instructions for use, making claims regarding its safety and effectiveness based on personal experiences and experiments on others, insulting colleagues in the profession, as well as publishing information that could influence the decisions of beneficiaries without completing scientific data related to risks, limits of use, and professional controls regulating that.
The Ministry confirmed that the necessary legal measures have been taken against the health practitioner, including suspending the license to practice the profession, based on the provisions of the Health Professions Practice Law.
The Ministry stressed that insulting fellow health practitioners is not consistent with professional ethics, and that professional disagreement must be managed in a scientific and professional language based on evidence and mutual respect, stressing that personal experiences or the experiences of others are not considered approved scientific evidence to prove the safety or effectiveness of health products, and are not considered as health or therapeutic evidence presented to the public.
She stated that scientific evaluations, and any research or medical experiments conducted on humans, are subject to approved ethical, scientific and regulatory controls, which include obtaining the necessary approvals from the competent authorities, in order to ensure the protection and safety of participants.
The Ministry of Health called for reporting violations and violating health practices through the call center (937), noting the continued monitoring of health content that is published and circulated on social media platforms, and coordination with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties when violations are related to their specialties, and taking the necessary legal measures regarding them, in order to ensure the protection of the safety of beneficiaries and the preservation of the integrity of the health professions and the ethics of their practice.
