The longest edition in the history of the “Camel Journey” begins from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, with the participation of 29 contestants from 18 nationalities.

DUBAI, 2nd December, 2018 (WAM) – The Events Department at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center announced today the launch of the twelfth edition of the camel trek, on a route considered the longest in the history of the trek since its launch in 2014, with the aim of preserving the Emirati heritage and highlighting the camel as a basic pillar of ancient life in the desert and the main means of transportation with which the Emirati person has been associated throughout history.

The caravan, which began on November 30, travels a distance of 1,050 kilometers on the backs of camels from the Al Sila area in the capital, Abu Dhabi, to the heritage village in the Global Village in Dubai, along an itinerary that mimics the historical pilgrims’ route in the country, reflecting the deep connection to national memory and reviving one of the most important Arab caravan routes throughout time. The route extends over 21 days of continuous marching in an experience that reflects the meanings of endurance, patience, and returning to the roots.

This year, 29 contestants representing 18 nationalities are participating in the trip. They were selected after passing intensive training stages under the supervision of the center’s experts, which makes the trip a human and social experience that enhances learning about the values of simplicity, self-reliance, cooperation, and the spirit of the desert.

His Excellency Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmouk, CEO of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for the Revival of Heritage and the leader of the convoy, said that the journey is not only a geographical crossing, but an internal spiritual crossing that constitutes a test of values and a restoration of the meanings of patience, honesty and endurance of hardship.

He added that this version is the longest and most symbolic because it re-presents an experience that the ancestors lived with deep faith and embodies the ability of camels to link the past and the present and consolidate the understanding of national identity.

The journey begins from the Al Sila area, passing through a number of desert stations, arriving in Dubai on December 20, where its activities conclude at the Heritage Village in the Global Village.
