Palestine welcomes the UN resolution calling for ending the occupation

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the vote by a decisive majority, taken by the United Nations General Assembly, at its 80th session, in favor of the draft resolution regarding the settlement of the question of Palestine by peaceful means.

The resolution calls for Israel’s withdrawal from the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and reaffirms the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, first and foremost their right to self-determination, the binding rule in international law, and independence. For the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, return in accordance with Resolution 194, in addition to the call to accelerate and intensify the provision of economic, humanitarian and technical assistance to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian government.

The Ministry affirmed that the broad support that the resolution received, which was supported by 151 countries, against 11 opposition and 11 abstentions from voting, reflects a renewed international consensus on the justice of the Palestine issue, and an explicit rejection of it. Due to the continuation of the Israeli occupation and its violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, this vote came on the text submitted by: the State of Palestine, Jordan, Djibouti, Senegal, Qatar, and Mauritania.

She stressed that the resolution reaffirms the principle of the inadmissibility of taking lands by force, the necessity of respecting the unity and integrity of the entire occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and the commitment of the international community not to recognize any unilateral changes to the pre-1967 borders, including Including what concerns Jerusalem, and rejecting any measures that would change the demographic or territorial character of the Gaza Strip, including reducing the area of its territory.

The resolution stresses that the Gaza Strip constitutes an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, reaffirms the vision based on a two-state solution, and stresses in this regard the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority without delay.

It also stresses the importance of international mechanisms, including the high-level international conference. To settle the question of Palestine by peaceful means and implement the two-state solution that was held in New York, and with a declaration approved by the General Assembly, and to assign the two presidents of the conference to follow up on the goals of the conference and the commitments made in it, including, when necessary, holding the conference again, whether in New York or in another city, or holding follow-up meetings, including through the Global Coalition to Implement the Two-State Solution.

The Ministry said that the resolution held Israel, the occupying power, responsible for ending its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, The evacuation of the colonists, and the abolition of the legislation and procedures that entrench this situation, constitutes an advanced step in the path of accountability, and is in clear harmony with the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, and with the obligations of states not to provide aid or assistance in illegal colonial activities.

The Ministry praised the resolution’s emphasis on ensuring accountability and non-impunity, and the call to take all necessary measures to ensure respect for international law and international law. Humanitarian.

It called on all countries to translate the contents of this resolution into practical measures, by not recognizing any illegal unilateral changes to the 1967 borders, including Jerusalem. And the discrimination in treatment between Israel and the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967; Refrain from providing any assistance that could be used to support illegal colonial activities; And take effective measures to hold accountable violations of international law and international humanitarian law consistent with its international obligations.

The Ministry pointed out that the State of Palestine, its leadership and people, will continue its diplomatic, legal and political work to ensure the implementation of this resolution and other resolutions, and to mobilize the necessary international support to end the occupation and embody the sovereign State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and achieve freedom, independence and the right of return for our people, in order to ensure access to a just peace.
