America reduces the duration of work permits for refugees and asylum seekers

The administration of US President Donald Trump decided to reduce the validity period of work permits for refugees, asylum seekers, and other immigrants, from five years to 18 months.

This step, the latest in the administration’s comprehensive crackdown on immigrants, came after the suspension of immigration applications for citizens of 19 countries. It also comes after an Afghan man shot two members of the National Guard, and he had entered America as part of a resettlement program, after Washington’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

USCIS Director Joseph Edlow said the recent shooting is cause for action on work permits.
