Union of Arab Artists for "today": Saudi cinema is experiencing a true period of prosperity

The Secretary General of the Arab Artists Union, Dr. Omar Al-Jasser during his talk to "today" The importance of communication between different artistic generations, indicating that the new generation has an open and creative vision that opens up horizons that were previously absent.
This came during Student Film Festival at King Abdulaziz University 2025.
Al-Jasser said that The Saudi film movement is experiencing a period of real prosperity, and he added: “The future is promising. Our young men and women who are filmmakers are participating not only in local festivals, but also in Arab and international ones, and are winning important awards. There is great support, praise be to God, from the state, from universities, and from specialized academies, and this is a golden opportunity.”

Al-Jasser expressed his great happiness in attending the King Abdulaziz University Film Festival 2025, stressing that the festival is witnessing rapid growth year after year, both in terms of organization and the quality of participating works.
He pointed out that the festival achieves remarkable distinction in each session, whether in terms of cinematic scripts or the level of directing, stressing that student performances are now revealing new talents capable of supplying the Saudi film industry with qualified and creative cadres.
He added: “The festival offers Saudi cinema has beautiful, creative young talent, and I really hope that these festivals will continue, because of their role in discovering and refining talents.”
Discovering and refining talents
Al-Jasser thanked King Abdulaziz University and all the universities in the region participating in organizing and attending the festival, pointing out that the experiences presented by students of both genders reflect the extent of the passion and ability to create mature cinematic content.
When asked about the most prominent features of the participating films, Dr. Al-Jasser said that the new ideas presented by young people represent a real addition to the cinematic scene.
He said: “Young people offer visions and ideas that we had not previously thought about. In fact, we, as an old generation, learn from them. They have reached new spaces in presentation and treatment, and this requires us to understand their way of thinking and get closer to their visions so that we can support them better.”
Dr. concluded. Al-Jasser spoke with advice to male and female students, saying: “I advise every male and female student to benefit from student clubs in universities, as they are the true environment for discovering and refining talents, whether in the artistic, cultural, or scientific fields.”".
