Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed meets with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Baku, December 6, 2017 – His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with His Excellency Mikail Japarov, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the visit during which His Highness heads the state delegation to the friendly Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, opportunities to expand economic and investment partnerships between private sector institutions in the two friendly countries were discussed, especially in the fields of advanced technology, digital transformation, energy, natural resources, and innovation.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing efforts to develop existing partnerships and benefit from the great potential that the two countries enjoy to continue working on launching joint projects that support economic growth and serve sustainable development goals.
The meeting was attended by Sayed Basr Shuaib, CEO and Managing Director of International Holding Company; Ali Rashid Al Rashidi, CEO of International Resources Holding; Ajay Bhatia, CEO, Sirius International Holdings; And Fouad Darwish, CEO and Managing Director of Palms Sport.
This meeting comes within the framework of a series of meetings held by the state delegation with a number of Azerbaijani authorities. With the aim of enhancing economic cooperation and developing initiatives that contribute to building long-term partnerships between the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In this context, International Resources Holding held a series of meetings with Azerbaijani entities, to discuss opportunities for cooperation in mining projects, by providing advanced exploration capabilities and applying sustainable practices to support the growth of the natural resources sector in Azerbaijan.
For its part, Sirius International Holding reviewed with a number of Azerbaijani entities and companies, on the sidelines of the visit, opportunities to expand the scope of cooperation in the areas of digital transformation in the electricity and water sectors, and smart energy grid infrastructure to support transformation efforts in the energy sector in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Sirius International Holding also reaffirmed its strong partnership with Azerbaijan through the smart gas network project worth US$480 million, which is being implemented by its subsidiary, Asiasoft, in cooperation with the national oil company of Azerbaijan, SOCAR, to provide network management solutions with technologies supported by artificial intelligence, smart meters, and advanced digital infrastructure.
On the other hand, during the visit, Palms Sport Company discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in the sports fields with a number of relevant institutions in Azerbaijan, as the company, which bears the name and sponsors Neftchi Football Club, continues to strengthen its presence in Azerbaijan as part of its global expansion plans, by enhancing cooperation in the fields of football, self-defense sports, community programs, and developing and preparing athletes.
