Hamdan bin Mohammed adopts new technology for digital hotel check-in in all Dubai hotels

DUBAI, 9 DECEMBER, WAM/ Within the framework of supporting the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 aimed at consolidating the emirate’s position as a global center for innovation and digital transformation, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, adopted digital hotel check-in technology to become one of the main channels approved in all Dubai hotels and holiday homes, providing a smart, fast and safe check-in experience for guests. Local and international.
The adoption of this initiative, developed by the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, comes after it demonstrated its ability to increase the efficiency of operational operations, reduce waiting time, and develop a more flexible hospitality system that responds to the requirements of the modern traveler.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “Dubai continues to consolidate its leading position as a global center for innovation and an open laboratory for smart city experiments, guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him”, in building an urban model capable of competing globally. This is a step that confirms Dubai’s position as a global destination for business and entertainment, and makes the guest experience a model to be emulated in the world.”
The new technology allows guests and visitors to Dubai from around the world to complete check-in procedures before traveling via smartphones, by documenting identity data and registering biometric information only once, without the need to repeat these procedures on subsequent visits. Upon arrival at the hotel, the guest passes through a digital access path that does not require standing at the reception desks, where pre-authenticated data is used securely, and is only re-requested when the ID expires.
As for subsequent visits, all that is required is quick biometric authentication, such as: verification through facial recognition to confirm entry within a few seconds, which enhances the comfort of visitors, especially those who have repeated visits within 12 months of their previous trip, whose percentage constitutes nearly a quarter of the total annual visits to the emirate, and raises the efficiency of the hotels’ operational processes. This mechanism is also consistent with the advanced technical infrastructure in Dubai, including the smart corridors at Dubai International Airport, which reduced the time period for processing passport control to a few seconds.
For his part, His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, said: “The new technology represents a qualitative shift in the hospitality sector in Dubai, and highlights our ability to employ smart solutions to enhance the emirate’s global competitiveness. This step comes as an embodiment of the vision of the wise leadership to support digital transformation, raise the quality of tourism services, and provide seamless experiences that remain in the memory of visitors.”
His Excellency added: “This initiative reflects the close cooperation between the public and private sectors, and confirms Dubai’s readiness to implement innovative solutions in line with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. It also supports the emirate’s efforts to strengthen its position as a global center for smart hospitality.”
The hospitality sector in Dubai is one of the main pillars of the tourism system, as the emirate hosts 820 hotels and hotel apartments that provide world-class services and facilities. The sector also contributed to Dubai reaching unprecedented heights of success, as it received 15.70 million international visitors in the first ten months of 2025, with a growth rate of about 5% compared to the same period last year, while the number of rooms booked reached 36.71 million rooms in the emirate’s various hotel facilities.
Adopting digital check-in technology represents a strategic step in the digital transformation process in Dubai, and confirms the emirate’s commitment to continuing to develop smart services that enhance its position among the best global cities, and redefine the tourism and hospitality experience through innovative solutions that reflect Dubai’s vision for the future.
It is worth noting that the new technology was designed to be easily integrated into hotel applications and existing electronic platforms in existing hotel establishments, noting that it can also be used in many points of direct contact with guests, such as: car rental, which paves the way for providing an integrated and customized tourism experience throughout the emirate.
