The battles caused a large wave of displacement, as the number of displaced people exceeded 125,000 in Thailand and more than 21,000 in Cambodia, amid popular fears of continued explosions and aircraft flying near residential areas.

The escalation comes in light of a long history of border disputes extending for about (800) kilometers, and after bloody confrontations last summer that resulted in (43) dead and (300) thousand displaced, without any tangible progress in efforts to demarcate the border or restore calm.
