Former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen confirmed that his country waited more than 24 hours before responding to the Thai air strikes and deploying tanks, stressing that the Cambodian forces "Fighting for self-defense.”
Explosions and aircraft flight
On the other hand, Thailand announced the killing of two soldiers, one of them in an explosion near the Preah Vihear temple, which is listed as a World Heritage Site, while Cambodia reported the killing of three civilians and the injury of more than 20 people since the beginning of the confrontations.
The battles caused a large wave of displacement, as the number of displaced people exceeded 125,000 in Thailand and more than 21,000 in Cambodia, amid popular fears of continued explosions and aircraft flying near residential areas.
The escalation comes in light of a long history of border disputes extending for about (800) kilometers, and after bloody confrontations last summer that resulted in (43) dead and (300) thousand displaced, without any tangible progress in efforts to demarcate the border or restore calm.
