The signing ceremony took place in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the Emirates Media Council, and His Excellency Maitha Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Media Strategy and Policies Sector, and with the participation of representatives of publishing houses: Dar Ajyal, Ghaf Publications, Dar Mulhamoun, Dar Sahab, and Dar Hazaya.
His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi said that these partnerships embody the Council’s vision of supporting national talent and developing local content in its various fields, and also reflect the belief in the role of national companies as a major partner in building a strong and influential publishing sector, pointing out that the signing of these agreements represents an important step to enhance the presence of Emirati pens, and enable creative people to access professional publishing platforms.
His Excellency stressed that national publishing houses represent a fundamental pillar in the success of the “First Edition” initiative, with their expertise and professional capabilities to refine innovations and transform them into creative works that reflect the status of the UAE and the aspirations of its youth.
These partnerships come within the framework of the Council’s efforts to support young Emirati talents and facilitate their entry into the world of publishing by providing an integrated support system that includes printing, editing, proofreading, and artistic direction, to ensure the provision of high-quality publications that reflect the image of local content.
Under these partnerships, the participating publishing houses will review, audit and produce the works submitted by the beneficiaries of the “First Edition” initiative, which will enhance the presence of new Emirati voices and open the way for a new generation of writers and creators.
The “First Edition” initiative falls within an integrated program launched by the Emirates Media Council to support the publishing industry, and provide a channel that helps new writers overcome challenges and allows them to experience publishing for the first time in a professional environment, in cooperation with national publishing houses that have extensive experience in this sector.
