The UAE is leading a proactive approach to regulating artificial intelligence globally

Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Omar Sultan Al Olama, stressed the importance of adopting a proactive approach in setting global legislative frameworks for artificial intelligence, stressing the need to keep pace with the speed of development of technologies with clear and effective laws that enable countries and governments to deal with future challenges with high readiness and efficiency, away from late response or immediate decisions.
He said that the UAE, with the vision of its wise leadership, is adopting a proactive approach and an exceptional model in developing policies related to artificial intelligence, based on strengthening cooperation and partnerships between the government and the private sector, to establish frameworks that guarantee the development and responsible use of smart technologies and their efficient management, based on successful cumulative experience and extensive expertise in managing technological transformations.
This came during the session “Regulation and Censorship in the Age of Algorithmic Authority” within the activities of the first session of the “Bridge 2025” Summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), which hosts participants from 132 countries, and 430 speakers from 45 countries, including creators, policy makers, investors, technology experts, and cultural leaders, within more than 300 sessions covering the summit’s seven tracks: media, the economy of content creation, art and music, electronic games, and technology. Marketing, and filmmaking.
He said: The rapid development of artificial intelligence will reshape the skills required in the labor market, and in the coming years we will witness the emergence of a new generation of professionals who are diverse in their experiences and abilities, which will give Emirati companies global competitiveness.
He pointed out that artificial intelligence offers great opportunities for the media and digital content sector, especially in the areas of data analysis, question processing, and content generation, but at the same time it poses challenges that require enhancing integration between humans and machines to ensure quality production. He said that artificial intelligence is capable of producing music, for example, but it has not yet reached a level that surpasses human creativity, reviewing examples of the developments the sector is witnessing.
He stressed the need to establish a deeper understanding of societies’ cultures and values with artificial intelligence tools, ensuring the preservation of their intellectual and cognitive heritage, and promoting conscious intervention and testing of models to verify the responsible use of these technologies.
