Food security statistics: Self-sufficiency rises and “shrimp” is at the forefront


The results of Self-sufficient from Shrimp (149%), dairy products (131%), and table eggs (103%).

The results showed that self-sufficiency rates in vegetables reached high levels, as eggplant (105%), okra (102%), cucumbers (101%), and zucchini (100%) achieved.

And dates recorded the highest self-sufficiency rate among fruits by (121%), followed by figs with a (99%) self-sufficiency rate.

With regard to the increases in self-sufficiency rates achieved by some food products in 2024 AD compared to 2023 AD, self-sufficiency in onions increased by (41.2%), and tomatoes by (9.2%).

Fish recorded an increase of (8.2%), and poultry self-sufficiency increased by (8.2%). (1.4%).

On the other hand, the results of the Food Security Statistics Bulletin for the year 2024 showed that the per capita share of the total amount of rice available for consumption amounted to (52.1) kilograms annually, and the per capita share of dates reached (35.8) kilograms, and of onions (20.5) kilograms, and tomatoes (19.6) kilograms.

As for animal products, the per capita share of milk reached (70.3) liters annually, (46.9) kilograms from poultry, and (235) eggs annually.

It is noteworthy that these results are based on field survey data carried out by the General Authority for Statistics, in addition to administrative records from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the General Authority for Food Security, and the Agricultural Development Fund, and they were collected and analyzed according to precise methodologies and high quality standards; To ensure the reliability of indicators and support national policies in the field of food security.
